Philobiblos reports today that Karen Churton (from Massey University in NZL) is appealing her 11 month sentence. I think 11 months is very generous for a Rare Books Librarian. She knew the value of the books she stole. And now she says she doesn't know why she stole the books & sold them. The answer is most likely - because she was greedy.
Sentence for books theft 'excessive'

I missed this story. She stole and sold rare books and all she got was 11 months?! I wonder if she'd gotten a more severe sentence if they'd been major works of art. It sounds as if books are getting the short end of the stick...again.
Oh another note Tag! Historia, you're it! I've tagged you for the "8 Things Meme." This seems like a great way to get to know each other. The details are on my blog. No obligations of you don't feel like it!
Well if you check my post dated April 7th called "Newsy Book Items", theres a list of books that she stole. None of them were internationally known books. In fact they seem to be mostly local (NZL) history & flora/fauna type books.
And thanks for the tag.
